Established in 1993, Vasilikon Winery boasts a rich history that began with the introduction of its inaugural wines, Vasilikon Xynisteri and Agios Onoufrios. This marked the commencement of a remarkable journey, propelling Vasilikon Winery to prominence among wine enthusiasts and connoisseurs worldwide. A pivotal moment arrived in 2000 with the establishment of a new, state-of-the-art winery and a collaboration with an oenologist, heralding an era of innovation and unparalleled excellence.
Situated in the Akamas Laona region and the village of Kathikas on the north-western shores of Cyprus, Vasilikon Winery's vineyards embrace the windswept terrain at an altitude ranging from 400 to 650 meters. The area experiences an annual rainfall of approximately 610mm and benefits from a temperate climate, tempered by refreshing sea breezes, resulting in wines that are both cool and robust, arguably ranking among the finest on the island.
The vineyards in the Akamas Laona region are found on lime (asbestolithic) soil, and some rest on loamy-gypsum terrain. The region's arid, limestone, and volcanic terroirs are home to a variety of grape cultivars, including the native Xynisteri, Sauvignon Blanc, Chardonnay, Muscat, Maratheftiko, Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc, Alicante B., Grenache, Shiraz, and Merlot. Vasilikon Winery is dedicated to crafting estate-grown wines of supreme caliber and distinction, with each wine eloquently expressing the unique essence of the property's terroir.
The crown jewel of Vasilikon Winery is the Diamant Xynisteri Single Vineyard 2021, a white dry wine holding a Protected Designation of Origin Laona Akama. This exquisite wine originates from a specific family-owned vineyard called "Vasilika," situated at an elevation of 700m on soil and clay, and planted in 1965. It is renowned for its delicate citrus and floral aromas, crystalline clarity, intricate flavor profile, and enduring aftertaste.
Vasilikon Winery combines the artistry of traditional winemaking with cutting-edge technology in its winemaking process. The grapes are handpicked and meticulously sorted to ensure utmost quality. Employing low-temperature fermentation and extended lees aging, the winery expertly draws out the finest attributes of the grapes. Subsequent short maturation in oak barrels enhances the complexity and depth of the wines.
Visitors to Vasilikon Winery embark on an unforgettable tasting experience that encompasses the region's rich history and cultural heritage, perfectly intertwined with the offerings of the brand. The winery's state-of-the-art facilities also house a small museum, showcasing historic tools and artifacts utilized in winemaking across the centuries.
A symbol of excellence and quality in the wine industry, Vasilikon Winery takes great pride in crafting estate-grown wines that eloquently articulate the distinct character of its terroir. With a storied past, state-of-the-art facilities, and an unwavering commitment to quality and excellence, Vasilikon Winery is a captivating destination, sure to captivate the palates of wine enthusiasts and connoisseurs alike.
