Famagusta

Famagusta is located on the eastern part of Cyprus and it is the second largest district in administrative area. Its name in Greek “Ammochostos”  means “buried in sand”, and even until nowadays the area is covered by miles of pale sand and clear turquoise sea.

Locations such as Ayia Napa and Protaras receive numbers of tourists every year both from Cyprus and abroad. Apart from its beautiful shores, the district is home to the archaeological site of the ancient city-state of Salamis and the city of Famagusta which has remained abandoned since 1974, giving it the name of “ghost-town”.
