Ancienne Église de Saint Nicolas

L'église Saint-Nicolas d'Alassa a été construite en 1936. Cette remarquable église est située à l'intérieur du barrage de Kouris, qui se trouve être le plus grand barrage à Chypre. Les vestiges de l'église ne deviennent visibles que lorsque le niveau d'eau du barrage recule, ce qui résulte en un phénomène fascinant. Pendant la saison hivernale, avec des précipitations abondantes, l'église est progressivement submergée par l'eau, ne laissant visible que son clocher.
À l'origine, l'église appartenait au village d'Alassa, qui était situé le long de la rivière Kouris. Cependant, avec la construction du barrage de Kouris en 1988, le village a été déplacé plus au nord, et l'ancien établissement a été recouvert par l'eau.
